Executioners (Chinese: 現代豪俠傳; pinyin: Xian dai hao xia zhuan) is a 1993 Hong Kong fantasy film and a sequel to *The Heroic Trio*. Johnnie To and Ching Siu-tung co-directed it. Michelle Yeoh, Anita Mui, and Maggie Cheung return as the main characters from the first film. The cast also includes Damian Lau, Anthony Wong, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Lau Ching-Wan, Paul Chun, and Kwan Shan.
The plot reunites the three heroes in a dark, post-apocalyptic setting. War has devastated the world, social and political strife are widespread, and clean water is extremely scarce. Anita Mui’s character, the Wonder Woman, has given up crime-fighting to focus on being a mother and wife. While walking home from the grocery store with her daughter, she stops a water thief, briefly showing her old skills. Michelle Yeoh’s Invisible Girl has accepted her heroic role and tries to make up for past misdeeds committed under her Evil Master’s control. She now works as a tutor for Kau, a masked hunchback who was the Evil Master’s former servant. Kau was badly burned and disfigured in a blast furnace in the first film, but he keeps his superhuman strength and lacks a moral compass except for his loyalty to his tutor. The Invisible Girl hopes to reform him. Maggie Cheung’s Thief Catcher still operates for profit, but she begins to recognize her place in a team and her larger responsibilities. The three face personal loss, conflicting loyalties, and overwhelming challenges to restore security and justice.
The film’s theme song, “A Woman’s Heart,” was also the theme of *The Heroic Trio*. Its lyrics were written by Chik Lam, music by Law Tai-Yau, and it is performed by Anita Mui.
